LFGNP Partnership meeting

LFGNP's next Partnership Group meeting will be held on Tuesday 22nd September from 10:00- 12:30, at the LFGNP offices in Swanston (  Refreshments will be available from 9:30.

The meeting will be centred on the topic of 'Green Network Development and Delivery Mechanisms'. There will be key presentations from Mark Mitchell, Project Officer for the RSPB Whitesands Quarry Restoration project, and Jonathan Louis, Project Officer at the River Forth Fisheries Trust. There will also be an opportunity for Partners to discuss examples or difficulties encountered around Green Network planning with their organisation.

We shall be holding our next LFGN Partnership Group meeting on Tuesday 19th May afternoon; 13:30 – 16:30 with refreshments from 13:00. The venue will be ‘The White House’ Craigmillar, Edinburgh.

The main focus of this meeting will be the new WIAT funding and after a few indoor presentations covering WIAT & the application process we will get out on site into Craigmillar Castle Park for a walk and talk using the woodland as an example of the capital and annual recurrent operations that can be funded.

Hardwood Grading, Valuing and Marketing event

Forestry Commission Scotland are re-running the one-day hardwood log grading, valuing and marketing course. The first is being held near Dalkeith, just outside Edinburgh, on Thursday 30 April 2015. It costs £25pp, and it's open to anyone who wants to attend. It's ideal for the beginner or as a refresher/update.

LFGNP goes West for Greening VDL in action

LFGNP's site excursion to Lanarkshire on 4 September was attended by some 35 delegates and followed the previous week's seminar in Edinburgh. The morning saw trials that had been established by Forest Research at Dalquhandy former open cast coal mine. The afternoon comprised a tour of Bothwell Old Mine Nature Park, a site of a variety of former industrial uses, and now becoming a fully restored forest park managed by Forestry Commission Scotland.

Hopetoun inspires farm woodlands for woodfuel

Some sixty farmers, estate managers and land agents gathered at Hopetoun Estate on 27 May to enjoy an inspiring introduction to managing farm-scale woodlands for woodfuel and other end uses. 

LFGNP Partnership meets onsite at the Edinburgh Tram

The LFGNP partnership met on 19th June and were treated to site visits using the Edinburgh Tram travelling between west Edinburgh to the city centre. Meeting at Ingliston Park and Ride, the tram served as transport to Edinburgh Park where David Jamieson and Derek Dickson of the City of Edinburgh Parks and Greenspace led a walk and talk. The group then used the tram to travel to St Andrew Square where Richard Darke, project manager of Essential Edinburgh met the group and talked about opening up St Andrew Square to the public.

The Fife Forestry & Woodland Strategy 2013-18 is released today

Fife could see an extra 200,000 trees (100 hectares) planted in the kingdom each year as a result of a new woodland strategy published today. The Fife Forestry & Woodland Strategy sets out a five year vision to maximise the wide range of benefits from woodlands and forests. It will assist with the delivery of Fife Council's Local Development Plan due in 2014, helping to improve cycle networks, create green networks, promote new planting and enhance woodland recreation.
